IAMMETER Invites You to Join Our Smart Control Project
Use Surplus Solar Energy to Power Heat Pumps – Join IAMMETER in Building Smarter Solar Self-Consumption Systems
With solar power becoming increasingly common in residential and commercial scenarios, more users are focusing on how to maximize the use of surplus solar energy, increase self-consumption, and reduce electricity costs.
To help users make the most of every kilowatt-hour of sunshine, IAMMETER is launching a new initiative and warmly invites you to participate.
Project Background and Objective: Smart Heat Pump Control Based on Surplus Solar Power
The core idea of this project is to:
- Monitor solar generation and energy consumption in real time via IAMMETER smart meters
- Accurately calculate surplus PV power
- Control the operation of heat pumps accordingly, including:
- Dynamically adjusting output power (for models supporting modbus, 0~10V, or PWM)
- Or switching the device on/off via relay control
The goals are:
- Prioritize using solar energy to drive heat pumps
- Align heat pump loads with solar generation curves
- Significantly improve the solar self-consumption rate
- Achieve long-term electricity cost savings
IAMMETER’s Experience in Surplus Solar Utilization
IAMMETER has been dedicated to intelligent energy monitoring for solar systems and has developed various practical applications for surplus solar power.
Solar PV Heater Control System
By monitoring surplus PV power, the system can intelligently control electric water heaters using power modulation or stage heating. The heater runs only when there is sufficient surplus solar energy, effectively improving the utilization of solar power. More details: https://www.iammeter.com/docs/pv-heater-control
Please note: The power control device used in this solution is the WPC3700, which is designed to control resistive load heaters and cannot be used to control heat pump systems.
Controlling EV Charging Based on Surplus PV
By integrating PV monitoring data into the EV charger, the system ensures charging happens only when surplus solar power is available, avoiding costly grid power consumption during peak hours.
